Overview: Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana is central scheme that aims at providing the supply of water facilities to every village in the country by meet ongoing supply to lands, improve on-farm water use efficiency to reduce wastage of water, enhance the adoption of precision-irrigation and other water saving technologies schemes implemented by various ministries. Enhance recharge of aquifers and introduce sustainable water conservation practices by exploring the feasibility of reusing treated municipal waste water for agriculture and attract greater private investment in quality irrigation system, by giving high priority to water conservation and its management.
As we know, the Indian economy is highly dependent on the agricultural sector. A huge population essentially translates into a need to address the growing food demands each year. A number of farmer suicides due to crop failure followed by lack of rainfall and lacking the quality irrigation. Food and retail inflation are natural corollaries to the situation and this hurts the economy. In 2014-15, food grain production in the country dropped by about 5.3 per cent.

NOTES: Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana has been approved for execution across the country with an outlay of Rs. 50,000 crore in five years. For 2015-16, an outlay of Rs.5300 crore has been made which includes Rs. 1800 crore for DAC; Rs. 1500 crore for DoLR; Rs. 2000 crore for MoWR(Rs. 1000 crore for AIBP; Rs. 1000 crores for PMKSY).
Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana:
- To improve farm productivity and ensure better utilization of the resources in the country.
- Budget allocation: 1000 crore (2015 – 2016).
- Supply of water to all agricultural farms in the country in order to produce “per drop more crop” to bring desired rural prosperity.
- Funding Ratio: Center – States will be 75: 25 per cent. In case of north-eastern region and hilly states it will be 90:10.
